Gintaras Dručkus

Background: Vilnius State University, Faculty of History and acquired master's degree in history (1983).

Professional experience:

  • 1978–1980 - laborer (radio equipment installer) at the Kaunas Radio Factory;

  • 1980–1991 - assistant laborer, exhibit custodian, and research fellow at the State History Museum in Kaunas (now the Vytautas the Great War Museum);

  • 1991–1992 - assistant to the Prime Minister's advisor in the Office of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania;

  • 1992 - consultant at the Information and Analysis Center of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Lithuania;

  • 1993–2001 - assistant, consultant, and advisor to the Chairman of the Council (later the city mayor) at the Kaunas City Municipality;

  • From April to May 2001 - museum specialist at the Lithuanian Aviation Museum;

  • Since June, 2001 - director of the Kaunas County Archive (which became the Kaunas Regional State Archive on January 1, 2017).

Professional activities:

Prepared and published a number of articles, reports, publications on museology, history and archiving. Main field of interest - history of Lithuania in the first half of the 20th century:

2002 – article (together with Vitalija Girčyte) „The Eighties of Lithuanian Central State Archives“. Published in: Kauno istorijos metraštis, 2002, Nr. 3, p. 391-392;
2006 - article „Establishment of the Central State Archives of Lithuania in 1921“;
2007 – compiler and co-author of the monograph „Kaunas City Maps in the 19th – begining of the 20th Centuries“ Kaunas, 2007. ;
2008 - article „Establishment of Modern Self-Government in Kaunas City (1918-1920)“. Published in: the weekly „Savivaldybių žinios“, November 20, 2008, No. 40;
2011 – one of compilers and co-authors of the monograph „Dusk Pilgrims. History of Lithuanian Partisans Vytautas District Lokys Selection 1944 – 1958“ (2011);
2011 – scientific report „New Facts about the June Uprising and Monument to its Participants in Obeliai“. Exhibitions devoted to the Year of Archives: „Facts, Artefacts and People“, „From Past to Future: Kaunas“, „From Past to Future: Alytus“, „From Past to Future: Marijampolė“,etc.

Initiated and organized expeditions identifying and revealing Lithuania-related archival heritage in the archives of other countries: Russian Federation (Moscow, 2007; St. Petersburg, 2013, 2014),  Bielorussia (Minsk, Grodno, 2014), Romania (2014), Georgia (2015), Ukraine (2016; 2018), Kazachstan (2023-2024). Prepared and published reports on the results of these expeditions. 

2016 – LR Ministry of Culture honorable award - „Nešk savo šviesą ir tikėk“ („Bring Yuor Light and Believe“)
Founder member of Lithuanian Archivists‘ Associacion (since 2008)
